Please enter the criteria you wish to search for. For options where you don't have a preference, leave them blank, or select 'don't care'. The broader you make your search criteria, the more results you are likely to find. The default options should select people who are similar to you, but of course, 'opposites attract' - so feel free to change them.

*  All searches use 'AND', so the more options you specify, the more precise (and fewer) results you will have. However, not every piece of information is known. For example, if you specify that you want a non-smoker, what about people who have not stated whether or not they smoke? If you enable 'show non-exact matches' (recommended), these people will be included in the results; otherwise, they will be excluded.

More specifically, any field which could be NULL is broadened to include it by 'show non-exact matches'.
The fields (in an advert) that could be null are: age, height, smokes, any of the additional attributes.
The fields that can never be null are: sex, seeks, photo, detail-level, keyword (can be empty but never null), advert-contains, common-keyword.

Text searches (keywords, advert) are literal. There are no special characters, operators, or wildcards; quotes have no special meaning; it is not case-sensitive. You can search for single words, such as kitten, or phrases, such as Flanders and Swann. As with keyword-highlighting, simple English-plurals (ending in -s) are matched both ways, thus searching for dog finds dogs, though puppy doesn't find puppies.

To ignore a particular field, either leave it blank, set it to '--', or check the 'Don't care' box. (These are all equivalent). The 'default' link above will set all the options to a best guess at something complementary to your own characteristics; the 'don't care' link sets everything to least-specific.

To search within a given set of results, use your Browser's find-in-page feature, usually Ctrl-F. Some options are further explained by tooltips: hover the mouse-pointer over them for an explanation. (Try it here).
